Calculation
How is the weight of steel beams calculated?
Rolled sections have a standardised weight per metre. The total weight is that weight per metre multiplied by the length and the quantity.
Formula
m = g × L
- g = weight per metre of the section in kg/m (per DIN 1025 / EN 10365)
- L = length in m
- m = weight per beam — multiplied by the quantity it gives the total weight
The weights per metre apply to steel at 7.85 kg/dm³. Example: an IPE 200 weighs 22.4 kg per metre, an HEB 200 about 61.3 kg per metre.
